Glass cleaning

Post by John Andreae »

Hi

Ive recently used truvue museum antireflective/uv glass to front a military memorabilia shadow box. Ive had problems getting the glass clean, in particular Ive got very small shiny points on the coated side of the glass. I don't think they are flumbs. Anyone experienced this? Is it damage to the coating?

Thanks

What he said.. :D
Sounds like grease spots or similar - I get them when my cloth gets a bit old. They do polish out with a bit of effort and a clean cloth.

What glass cleaner are you using?
I find that nilglass is not good for some of the ar glass and use the wessex glass cleaner.

I agree, seems to be a kind of streak left if there is a slight residue. Just a bit more polish needed.
I took a frame to a customer's house and as we hung it on the wall he said 'oops there's a little streak there'. I said 'don't worry that will just need a little rub' but unfortunately it was on the inside
I had to take it back and take it apart to clean it before returning it. :head:

Just a thought.....

Wouldn't it be nice if someone - maybe a glass supplier - were the make up little kits for cleaning speciality glass. A little pot of cleaner and a few microfibre cloths. You could then hand then out gratis to anyone who opts for the 'good stuff' in their frames or buys a picture with it in.

Good PR. :D

I spent a fortnit cleaning a piece of Claryl one evening.

I was trying to remember where I had seen the shinny spots described earlier. Then it came to me. On my PC monitor. Still got a CRT. :?

You just have to REALLY put everything you've got into it. I always dread having to clean glass, but it will come right in the end.. even if you have to keep coming back to it a few times!
