Does anyone know which supplier in the UK has the biggest slice of the moulding supply pie?

Because they got the biggest warehouse if seen, and have alot of good quality clearance moulding through out the year.

Isn't there warehouse also the european hub where all moulding from manufacturers comes into before being distributed out to the european warehouses?

I agree though Arqadia is probably the largest now in the UK.

All the mouldings at arqadia are imported direct from the factories in the far east.

Yes and also europe mainly from larsons own factories, but the point I was making the Uk warehouse then distributes them to all the other european arqadia warehouses. The benifit to the Uk is that arqadia UK is very rarely out of stock of a particular moulding unlike a few years ago when lines would be out of stock for months at a time.

Ok so we all agree Arqadia has the largest pie share :D

I never realised there were other Arqadia branches around Europe!

I always thought Simons shifted the most mouldings, I was told some years ago that they turned over more per annum in emafyl alone than anyone else in UK on all mouldings.

Nielsen probably sell more aluminium mouldings than anyone else.

Very interesting stuff. Are there any figures for percentage market shares?
I was under the impression that Mainline was growing rapidly so looks like the balance is changing.

I would have said mainline was tiny in comparison though they do have a good range of plastic mouldings.

Robo, Arqadia are owned by larson Juhl who own factories all over the world, and arqadia has branches all over europe as well.

I know Arqadia are owned by L Juhl but I didn't know Arqadia had branches throughout Europe - nor can I find any!

Anyway I think Simons sell more mouldings, to UK businesses, than Arqadia (UK) do.

I don't see how anyone can say which supplier has the biggest share of the market, without having access to actual figures. I think that it is quite likely that Arqadia and Simons are the largest two suppliers, but neither of them seem to be making any claims to be the biggest, so it's still guessing! I would suggest that actual sales figures could be something that they would not want each other to know about as such information could be very helpful to a competitor.

Other than that, I suspect that the market can be a lot more fluid than most of us might imagine. Also some of the other suppliers still have significant shares of the market as well. For example Nielsen Bainbridge are also a major player in ready made frames and all of these are made from their own mouldings. Simons are very big in supplying contract framers, ready made frame manufacturers and probably various other markets as well. It's a very complex market to try and analyze.

Various manufacturers will probably be tied in with different suppliers with long term arrangements and as the fortunes of individual manufacturers fluctuate, so will the market shares of the suppliers. Being an industry dependant of changing fashions and moulding styles which come and go, there's a lot a stake and therefore ever reason for suppliers to guard their own sales figures and other sensitive information to prevent give competitors any advantage.

You can get those figures on line for a small fee from sites such as this, although there may not be a breakdown of sales of different items.

I thought it would probably be Arqadia or Simons but I have no figures to support that.

The other figure which I would love to know is the size of the bespoke framing business in UK. Even if I knew the sales figures for Arqadia
or Simons I still wouldn't know the percentage of sales to contract framers.

I find this Gov site to be the best
http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/toolsT ... Info.shtml
For GBP 1.00 you can get almost any company's balance sheet.
Telling you the turnover, profit, number of employees and then you can calculate the sales per employee.
But it begs the question, what use is all this unless you are one of the big boys and want to see how you compare.

From what I've seen on TV it is unwise to enter the Den without being adequately prepared. :D

It's also fun gathering information.
