Antique frame restoration required

Post by frameet »

Hi

Can anyone recommend someone to restore the damage to two antique gilt frames.

One is an over-mantle mirror that has some broken sections and will also need regilding preferably with either real gold leaf or replica leaf.

The other frame is an oval with similar damage sized at 24x32 inches

Not in your area but Richard Christie could probably help. Watch the reflections, drinking on the job?

That frame appears to be done with bronzing powder.

I've not used this chap so can't recommend him, but he is not too far from you depending on where you are in Cumbria.

That looks like a less than straightforward job. Someone would need to take a mould from the running pattern and then bend it.
Matching the finish would be tricky also. If I were doing it I would re-gild the whole frame.
