Uv92 or Museum glass

Post by Uncle Sumo »

Lady came in today and was absolutely certain she needed UV protection and high clarity. I recommended TruVue Museum glass. Later I was reading in the Wessex catalogue and noticed TruVue UV92. Anyone used UV92? Any views on how to choose between them?

The spec for both is on Wessex website
http://www.wessexpictures.com/ultravue_uv92.html
http://www.wessexpictures.com/museum_glass.html

Museum is waterwhite so is clearer than museum and also does not have the rippled coating (which is a lot better than it used to be but still there).

Conservation quality glass by both FATG and PPFA standards must have a minimum 97% filter and anything below that level will be a reflective filter, not an absorptive filter, so less effective. But it's all stuff for the lab really, not the framing workshop. Both offer high protection and great clarity - it's more important to hang the picture in a good location.

If you decide you prefer the 92, check the sheet sizes and prices to other anti-reflective waterwhite 92% filtering products like artglass and watch out for grab marks on the edges of some types.

The museum glass is also slightly thicker at 2.5mm as opposed to 2mm. This makes it stronger but also heavier.
