FAMAart in Bologna - Wo's Going?

Post by John Ranes II, CPF, GCF »

This might be Europe's lone standing Art & Framing Trade Fair and it is scheduled this year for 3-4-5 March in Bologna, Italy.

I will be there working in a stand for Picture Framing Magazine, but have also been asked to present one seminar for the ACIP-

This is the three year old Italian Professional Picture Framing Association. They are now up to 140 members which is nice to see. I will be presenting a Seminar on Award Winning Shadowbox Framing on Sunday and as I understand, all are invited...members and non-members, alike.

Their members will be presenting two other seminars at the Fair....one on Social Media Marketing and a second on Frame Finishing from raw wood.

I know that Keith Hewitt will be there... anyone else??

We would love to go but we are still getting the workload under control after our trip to WCAF last month :D . Hopefully we can make it next year.

Jo, It was very nice spending time with you and your husband at WCAF. I don't think that Italy will have quite the framer involvement, nor degree of education, but it will definitely win out on the best Pasta!

Having been lucky enough to do the WCAF show 10 times, and the Italian show every year since 1988, let me share with you my views on these 2 shows
They are hugely different

WCAF show is for framers from any country ... over 100 seminars is the big pull. Plus the USA distributors
Bologna is for worldwide distributors to buy mouldings, machinery etc.

Some European framers I know come to Bologna, and are blown away by the vast array of mouldings as the Italian, Spanish, German etc mfgs show their latest designs to the distributors.
There is no education, apart from John Ranes doing his seminar + I believe that ACIP will do 2 seminars, most probably in Italian language, as its for their members
So my suggestion to any framer is, if you have never been to either, and need to choose one - choose WCAF show, and benefit from all the seminars.

If you want to look at new mouldings, which are usually only sold to genuine distributors, listen to John Ranes, and enjoy some fine Italian cuisine, then come to Bologna -

I have visited distributors and framers in 90 countries - no two are the same.
