FRame for a pastel

Post by GeoSpectrum »

I've been asked to frame a pastel but without a mount, so spacers it is. I've warned the customer about the possibility of buckling. I'm puzzled as to how to construct the trap at the bottom of the frame? I thought about using a slightly narrower spacer at the bottom thus forming a gap between the paper but am not sure. Any ideas?

Did a very large 100x100cm limited print last year with diamond dust on the surface, used the normal spacers, frame was Wessex PW153 with slip PW75 pin and glued into the frame then all painted white, the glass was behind this slip, then the spacer, which created a channel, so when the frame was up on the wall you could not see the bottom channel where the diamond dust fell into

Return of the slipmount. :P

This might work in this case with a few variations.

Rather than a standard slip you could use a rev bev skinny mount. Or much better a slip like
R&H A293 with the bevel facing in. Space the slip away from the glass, like the diagram, and any
loose dust will not get wedged between the slip/glass but drop into the rebate. Or they will go the
other side never to be see again. You could finish the slip to tone in with the frame.
