not a morso

Post by kartoffelngeist »

Hi,

We've acquired a machine that looks a lot like a morso...

Does anyone know anything about it? Had a quick google and couldn't come up with much. Is it any good?

Any thoughts welcome!

It looks very much to me like a Morso that's been hacked. Literally. :P

The 'workings' are identical to a Morso, but the stand has evidently been modified for whatever reason and it's been re-badged.

Wonder why anyone would go to the effort of doing that...

I had assumed it was just a morso rip off...right down to the morso green, but I guess that would make sense...
Thanks,

It looks a lot like the early Jyden guilotines. When I was being trained at Triton Galleries, they had a Morso F, a Morso EH and an old Jyden. The Jyden was every bit as good as the Morso and even used the Morso blades. I remember hearing somewhere that the original Jyden blades were a different thickness to the Morso blades, but that to use the morso blades, you needed to adjust the bottom blades on the Jyden.

Like the Morso, Jyden is also a brand name owned by Danlist. BTW, there were a number of Morso copies being made a one time, including one by the u.k. based moulding company Magnolia. The Magnolia machine had a good reputation, but from what I've been told there is a problem with spares as they were not a straight Morso copy, so anyone is thinking about buying an old Magnolia Guillotine - Beware!

Looks to me like it is for joinery use, one out standing feature is the open frame allowing easy access to remove offcuts unlike my Morso that has to be positioned quite close to the wall so I don’t walk in to it every time I walk through the door!
