Vertical racking

What maximum length of moulding should I base horizontal racking on, folks? Does 3 metres max sound right?

I would not want to be too dogmatic about this, so don't try to expect an answer that is going to exclude other ways of approaching this problem. We have to be realistic in regard to what will provide adequate support to prevent bowing, or distorting of the mouldings and what is sensible in terms of expenditure of time and money.

It maybe that you may already have some suitable materials available, which with a little imagination can be adapted to meet your needs without depleting your financial resources to much. As a temporary measure, I have a large number of mouldings stored upon some old and not otherwise required household doors, which I have stood upon some cheap ready made trestles. They'll do while I get around to fitting out my new shop, but I think they illustrate my point about not being unnecessarily restricted in how you approach this issue.

Try and be a little imaginative and provide something that suits your own requirements, your own premises, and your own financial resources. It generally does not matter too much if a foot, or two is hanging over the end unsupported, look at the photos of my earlier racks in link I showed earlier, some of the mouldings stored on these racks were there for years and some are still here even now, but they are still straight and usable.

I'm Limited for space in my workshop, 8ft high 5ft 8in wide 10ft 2in long so this is my layout.
excuse the rubbish its time for a clear out
