Prospero.............
Cheers for the 'leather effect' tip, it came in use this week!
A customer wanted a 'cheap as possible, but looking expensive' solution to a signed photo/record combination. The original idea (of the customer!) was to have a gold frame, red mount. Ok, I says, taking the order, no problem.......... except I have no red mounts, and the supplier is out of stock, and this frame is wanted for this weekend.
I thought as the moulding is a cheap offcut of obeche with a slap of paint, I'd do the same with an offcut of mountboard, following a variation of your tip...... bear in mind the photo is of the frame pre-assembly, nothing except the frame is fixed, no glass etc.......

Customer has seen it and is ecstatic......

Nice one Spit.
Reminds me of 'Dansette' record players and early '60s coffee bars.

Actually, I just noticed in the pic the record is the wrong side up! 'Diane' is on the other side, which is the name of the intended recipient........ must remember that on assembly!

Yes it is fairly dire design. It well illustrates the principle that sometimes more is less.

Re: Prospero.............
Have you got a link to the thread which explains this technique? I'm having a daft day and can't find it.

Top post of the page.
I modified the technique slightly, using acrylic paint, red & thinned black, applied with a sponge, then sponged a thin red coat to tone down any harshness with the black areas. I didn't use a wire brush or wax either.

Best not to use wax if glass is going to be in direct contact.

Hi Steve,
That's a really nice job and I bet he'll be showing it off to friends and family too! Jobs like that often lead to more work!Spit wrote:Customer has seen it and is ecstatic......
