Cathandon Cafe?

Post by Uncle Sumo »

Maybe I`m the last to know but I`ve found out Cathandon is no more. Gordon has gone into the catering trade. Good luck to you Gordon if you`re looking in. Mainline Mouldings have bought his Morso sharpening equipment.

Who else is out there for hollow grinding Morso blades? I guess Prospero does his own on some cunningly-fashioned home-made gizmo. But what about others? Who do you use?

I get Wessex to sharpen my blades. Carriage is free as they go on the weekly van.

I see we now have to keep it on-topic or JGF # 1 will send some feisty Irish Lasses round to sort you out!

How many feisty Irish Lasses is that then? If it was just one, it would be tempting to ask if it's anyone we know!

I use Glass & Mirror - I think it's nine quid. No carriage as it's on their own van - they also provide very nice boxes.

Is anyone still using the polystyrene boxes the blades come in? (In fact do they still come in them? Yonks since I bought a new set)

I've never used Simons, but at one time - not that long ago, they offered a FREE sharpening service with an order over £whatever - not sure how they collected.

Anyone use that/is it still going?

Their website quotes £5.95 for delivery. Is that expensive?

I have been recommending using Sawrite.co.uk for quite a while now.
They were originally AFS but amalgamated with Sawrite earlier this year.
They offer a 2/3 day turn around and inspect every set of blades before sharpening...........if they find the dreaded 'hill' they flat grind the face before hollow grinding.
They do not charge extra for this service

I have had a 100%, problem free service, from them for over 2 years and am happy to recommend them to all my customers.

Get your cut right and you are half way there

Just to clarify. We charge £5.95 to deliver your blades back to you and £8.65 to collect them from your premises or you can send them to us. The blades are fully insured against loss and are tracked wherevere they go. For that price you can send up to 10 sets of blades. Prices to Scottish Highlands & Islands and Ireland are higher.

The post office charge around £8.60 to post the blades with no insurance or tracking.

Ashworth & Thompson have offered a blade re-sharpening service for years & years & years. All blades are correctly " Hollow Ground ". We charge # 10.50 + postage + VAT. That's all. Our reps or van service can collect them from customers - thus making the sending in cost no existant. If blades arrive in polystyrene boxes, we put them onto wooden blocks - or into wooden boxes - depending on what we have available at that time.

We don't just sharpen Morso blades either, any blade that requires attention can be done at a very reasonable cost.

Please let us know if you need anything collecting for sharpening.

Thanks.

I recently got my first set back from Mainline. I'm very happy with the results, and hopefully the quality will always be this high - Until i found Cathandon I'd had endless problems cutting fat oak and ash mouldings.

Mainline charged me £28.98 including carriage both ways but its a small price to pay if the work is always impeccable.
