Mounting Ceramics

Guys,

I have a customer coming in tomorrow with two old hand-painted ceramic tiles that he wants individually mounting and framing. The framing bit I'm OK with.

Any usefule advice on mounting tiles? I believe each tile is approx 8"x4". I've seen some kind of cling-film solution in Viv's book but practical advice is much better than theory!

Thanks in anticipation

P

I knew I'd taken a photo of one I'd done with a Mylar mount, but when I found the photo I began to doubt myself!

But no - this was mounted with Mylar (or 'Melinex' - clear archival polyester film anyway)

Two 'straps' just a fraction smaller than the tile - one goes through slits in the mount just under the tile and the other goes around that strap and the tile without passing through the mount, just to prevent movement in the other direction.

If the tile is already shiney this method is great, if not then it will become shiney, but if you want to HOLD it in place rather than STICK it in place - any method you use will be visible.
