Since opening my little shop/gallery I've had lots of people wanting glass cut & Oval Frames the glass I've just normaly charged from my pricing chart, ie: 28"x14"= £12.00. But the readymade ovals 12x10 with no glass or backing cost me £14.00 plus vat so what sort of markup on those? i have been told x 2.5 is normal but by the time you add it all together its going to end up round about £50.00 per frame seems excessive to me. Anyone!!!!!!!!!

Ovals tend to be more expensive than rectangular frames as you will probably have noticed from suppliers price lists.

I would just apply the same mark up and if the customer baulks at it offer a rectangular frame with an oval mount.

If a customer does not accept a price for a moulding I always show them a cheaper one rather than compormise on my price (within reason). They will most often go back to their original choice because that is the one they really want.

We would only charge £2.99 for the glass! We charge £1.10 per square foot.

We mark up ovals and swepts about 2.5 times

Why is £50 expensive? That picture will probably stay on the customer's wall for 25 or 30 years. I filled up my car today, that was SIGNIFICANTLY more than £50. That will last less than a week.

My price? to fit a picture and glass into an oval frame that cost me £14 would be £68. Worth every penny! Have faith in your service, and value what you do. You are worth the money

Just like the L'Oreal advert - "Becasue you're worth it!"

Now Jim don't be shocked with my pricing but I would charge £60.60 inc VAT. I may well be inclined to charge more for the ball ache of cutting oval glass. As i have said time and time again it is dependent on your market and your circumstances. If your market won't stand the price then you need to re evaluate.

We charge lxbreadth in inches e.g 20 x 16 = 320p £3.20 we buy our galss at £2.85 for a 4Ft x 3 ft (100 sheets at a time)

Anything oval that I have to cut (mounts, glass, backing), I take my normal rectangle price and double it.

I assumed you were asking two questions. Cut glass only price and markup for ovals

We pay around £3 for 4x3 glass (so about 25p a sq foot)

I allow about 33% wastage on each sheet, so if I were paying the same as you, it would work out that I was recovering around 8sq ft per sheet, so the cost would be $0.375/sq ft. That would be a markup of 2.93.

My markup on clear glass is pretty close to three times that. Interesting how different people price glass!
I offer six or seven types of glass and the more expensive it gets the lower the markup gets.
