knots

Post by simoonez »

I just thought I'd say how much I love knots. As in knots in rope not in wood. Or maybe I should say knot in wood.. :Slap:

Although I don't particularly like hanging things with nylon string, it does enable me to get my favourite knots out. I use bowlines for a single strung frame, and a double fisherman's knot for a weightier double strung frame. As a part time tree worker I use these two knots to keep me from hitting the ground, so I know they will never fail. :D

Any other favourite knots out there? or is this a bit geeky.. Maybe I'll post it on the tree climbing forum as well.

I only use one knot on super softstrand, a barrel hitch, followed by a load of tight coils.

On smaller frames I use two overhand knots and a dab of super glue. No problems yet...

I use double and single fisherman's knots and like to tidy the loose ends by melting them on a candle flame. :D

Back in the old days before I discovered super softstrand wire, I used a double length of polyester cord and simply tied the ends together with a reef knot.

For sealing the ends I use one of those lighters with the long extension used for starting barbecues, I don't fancy having naked flames in the workshop.
