Framer's wish list

Post by Not your average framer »

Here's a thread for suggesting things you would like a supplier to make available for you and others. Who knows, perhaps some suppliers may get some good ideas and grant our wishes! Please feel free to add support to any suggestions you like!

O.K., here my wish item:

What I would like is a Polcore moulding with a simulated aged bakalite finish and a nice !920's or !930's appearance. There's gotta be a good market for something like that!

Dear Santa. I would like all finished moulding to be available in bare wood and if they are gessoed, in plain gesso.

Peter 4 3/4. :P

also....

4" wide gumstrip in black leatherette texture.

I would go along with Ricky on the rebates. A double mount, undermount, backing board and glass is a minimum of 10mm, so 12mm for me please.

Items out of stock, probably depends on some countries not taking the summer months off, although knowing this the suppliers should be able to forecast requirements and order in anticipation. The trouble with "just in time" ordering is that it doesn't work that well in our industry.

The "big wish" for me would be to have a readily available supply of all the different glass that is available in England/Scotland/Wales. We're lucky to get float glass and everything costs so much more in NI and Ireland as a whole.

And if Santa's listening, can I have an iPad or something similar (Edit: Oh and a Magnum classic please :-) )

Thanks.

Don't give me nasty surprises!

After taking time with a customer who has finally chosen a moulding that I don't have in stock but is in your current catalogue & price list (sorry, make that 'price guide') it's not good to receive a phone call, the day after I placed the order, to say it's discontinued.

I know I could pick up the phone to check availability with the customer present, but if it comes to having to do that too often I'll just be steering clear of your stuff unless I know I have it in stock.

I will second the above. Just had another delivery in with a bloody great footprint on the packaging so a photo will be going to the sales director of the supplying company also seeking an explanation as to why having agreed to double and bubble wrap all future moulding deliveries it has only happened once.

Agreed with that. We had a delivery that was very poorly packaged and therefore arrived damaged beyond repair. Agreed with them the replacements needed to be double wrapped and guess what? The replacements also arrived damaged and were not as well wrapped as the first lot. Needless to say I cancelled the order but it took over six months to get the credit notes.

Robo, the good thing about Estlite for me is that if stock levels are low either here or at the supplier I get a warning. Of course that only works for those suppliers working in the 21st century but that is now who I buy most of my stock from.

Simples,

A good quality 1200mm rule, made from aluminium with metric markings on both sides, starting from the end and starting from opposing directions.

The markings need to be engraved / impressed as my current ones all end up rubbing off.

Also an attachment which can be placed on a 45deg. mitre to allow you to exactly measure the inside of a rebate.

Less than £25.00 and I'll have two, one to use while the other ones hiding.

three shapes of moulding - box, wide, square in 8-12 great on trend colours (not 3 good and 3 random, or a variety of similar shapes)

Black, white, gold, silver, natural oak, mid oak, cherry, walnut, wenge, cream, beech. Gloss options for black and white.

Thats the basics 80% covered. Then we can go to the catalogue or fancy stuff just as needed.

I second Robo's point about the moulding being discontinued. It has happened to three mouldings in a week.

So my wish is for moulding suppliers to send out monthly email bulletins telling us which mouldings (and other products for that matter) are discontinued and have no or very little stock left. Can it be that difficult? :xcomputer:

Maybe a non-mitred chop service.

Perhaps, a we'll chop a full length in it in half for you, then you won't have to order so may full lengths to make the bundle stiff enough to transport.

The parcel may then not be classed as an ugly by couriers.

I think you will find Ashworth and Thompson do a "straight cut" chop service.

Perhaps Lion will take note of that.

Suppose I should have added we'll chop it in half but you have to buy both halves.

Suppliers who do chop should send all their customers a box of short bits for Christmas.  :smirk:
