Hi we are looking to make ready made box frames, Does anyone have any source of cheap box frame moulding. Approx 1, 2, 3 inch deep

we are looking for somthing like "framebox" from arqadia 208400000. Any body got any good recommendation for a cheaper version

Framebox is pretty horrible and to build up 2" let alone 3, would not be cheap, and take too long. You'd do better just buying flat battens from Wicks.

Ah I thought so, They need gluing etc, and seem very messy, the prices are 80p a meter. Was looking for a cheaper and cleaner way. thanks Robo, I check it out.

i build a lot of large (900x900) frames with Simons PHOE/0037 which is a nice deep moulding.

you could get yourself a spindle moulder and manufacture your own but that all depends on how many your going to manufacture.

My advice would be if you are going to a make large quantity of frames have it milled to your own specification, or buy bulk from an existing supplier and do a deal.

Any large timber merchants will probably mill it for you, I have 1 locally 2 can have used. But be prepared to have to take a couple hundred metres of it.

Do you want a moulding or a piece of wood????

If it's a moulding you're after, I recommend Rose And Hollis' A333 and extension A335 with spacers F15 and F5, I use them all the time, up to 103mm between face of back mount and underside of glass, brilliant. See http://www.zinc-white.co.uk/blog/09/11/ ... s-artwork/

I want a cheap box frame moulding, without using any glue. in 1" 2" and 3". all im going to do is make the box and went add any different colour frame on top. The customer will then do a DIY job putting in their objects. Does that make sense? please advise

So your after stips of wood, Arnold Lavers are probably the cheapest.
PSE is what you need but be aware the size given is what it was before it was sanded, a bit like steak

Ive been asked to quote for 100 800mmx600mm box frames (Christmas stock.. already!), so I too am looking for cost effective moulding. So far I have been using the Pheonix range from Simmons but looking to see if there are any more cost effective options. All in all I think I will use around 300m in the next few months.

I have been quoted for unfinished moulding in Obeche and Pine from Norwich mouldings which is obviously cheaper than finished mouldings and my customer would prefer hand finished as he can touch up any dings himself rather than having to ditch the cheap frames as he currently does if they are knocked.

The thing that worries me is the potential time spent finishing raw wood mouldings, after filling and sanding I assume its 2 or 3 coats acrylic paint to finish.

Can anyone either recommend a supplier for finished moulding, mostly white, some black.... I have just ordered the Rose & Hollis catalogue and price list. I am already aware of the prices from Wessex, Simmons and Lion.

Can anybody give a rough estimation of the additional time required to hand finish/paint raw wood mouldings?
