desktop morso wanted - pref in N Ireland

Lo all, first time post so be gentle!

I'm a part time framer wanting to move my equipment upmarket before I attempt to go full time.

I need a desktop morso guillotine as the floor standing one is out of my price range anytime this decade!

Or if anyone can recommend some other machine that cuts perfect 45 degree cuts with speed and ease I would appreciate it.

2nd hand might be best, brand new is a stonking amount of money.

Oh and I live in N Ireland , so collection would only be possible for me anywhere in Ireland.

deadly serious, think twice before you fo for the benchtop morso. once you've had one of those come loose you'll never forget it, specially if it lands on your foot.... and they are nowhere as good or easy to use as the foot operated type. Its almost easier with a mirte saw

just imho.

Ebay it just before christmas, when the established framers are too busy to bid, and the people selling are gagging for some christmas cash.
Secondhand morso - nothing is really beyond repair! Watch out on ebay, though. sometimes they can go for daft money.

or, till an affordable one comes up (they do!) have you considered one of those bench top guilotines thats just for shaving the mitres after they have been sawn? You can then sell it on to someone in same position or keep it for doing fillets....

Whoever your framing wholesaler is, ask them. They are often the first to know if anyone is closing down and selling up, and many keep S/H equipment in too.

I'd second that advice: go for a Proman mitre saw http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp? ... e=1&jump=0 with an extension measuring system (http://www.lionpic.co.uk/index.php?sess ... ctid=4796B) and a mitre trimmerhttp://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axmi ... -22768.htm until you can find a well-priced used full-size Morso.

The results can be just as good as you'll achieve with a Morso -- it just takes longer. The trimmer is optional. A Proman with 18tpi blade will give perfect mitres but the trimmer is useful for shaving small bits off if a length is cut oversize.

At least, that's the way I started and I still use those tools even now I have a Morso. The Proman saw is useful for large mouldings and non-45 degree custs (it's quicker to use that than adjusting the fences on the Morso) and the trimmer is useful for slips.

Keep watching eBay for Morso cutters -- bargains crop up now and again with nearly new machines going for the same price as a bench cutter.

thanks for the info guys, sorry it took me a while to reply, was in hospital with an infection there, all well now though.

thats great advice on the desktop model, so i'll have to go for a full model then. My location is such a problem as machines come up every week on ebay for sensible money, but the cost of me going over to the mainland to collect would eat up the savings

I will struggle on with my trusty mitre saw for now I guess!

Theres nearly always some framing equipment on it.

2 Morsos on it this week, 1 priced at €1000, about £700 sterling.
I just had a look on Ebay,

Used Morso,
Starting Bid £600, Buy it now price, £900 Postage Costs, FREE. I would hate to be a mail man over there

The advice you got from the other posters is true, use mitre saw until you see a Morso for sale at the price you want to spend.
There is alot of them out there.
