Melinex

On various threads many of you have mentioned using "Melinex" for various framing jobs, such as mounting medals. My question is who is the best supplier for this in the UK?

We have never used it before so are looking for recommendations please. I have "Googled" and received a huge number of suggestions, including Conservation by Design but I believe personal recommendation is a best route to go.

PEL page 43 of the catalogue Archival Polyester Rolls 415-xxxx product range is this sort of film

it might be better to get the 75Micron gauge the other gauges may be to light.

PEL is where I get mine too - a roll goes a long way and it's very versatile.

Encapsulation, overlays, straps, corners, mounting strips - book mounts ..... all sorts. Do you have Jim Miller's book? http://columbapublishing.com/shopsite_s ... rfilm.html

Thanks guys, that's been very helpful. We do have the PEL catalogue but I wasn't entirely sure that the film in it was the same as was being referred to as "Melinex". We shall add a roll to our next order, but like Dermot would be grateful for advice on what guage to go for.

Robo thanks for the link to Jim Miller's book. No we don't have it, well not until the one I've just ordered arrives.

I've just finished a medal mount too, but the medal is sewn to the mount. The frame contains a small assortment of Free French Resistance/WWII memorobilia including the medal. I'll post details and a photo tomorrow, all being well.
