ANother Copyright question

Post by CanvasChris »

What is the copyright on printing an image of a stamp?

Its the old 16p pink one which is no longer available so out of commission.

been asked to do a 30" x 36" gallery canvas...

The royal mail is the legal copyright owner for stamps designs of the last 70 yrs. This document from the royal mail click will help. You can evidently apply to use the image.

My understanding is that crown copyright is not subject to the 70 year rule and items subject to crown copyright will be covered by copyright protection for ever.

Discretionary permission to reproduce certain crown copyright items may be granted, (possibly at no cost), if you can be bothered to find out which authority to contact and request permission in writing.
