Hi

New to frameing, I have a keencut ultimat mountcutter.
My question is replacement blades. They seem very expensive for genuine keencut blades , is there a less expensive alternative to keencut blades , should I buy different grades , or is one more useful than others.

All advice appreciated.

The cost per blade, especially when divided in to the amount of mounts it would cut, is negligible really, however, I never used them, Lion used to sell alternatives made by Persona, single and double edge, far cheaper and just as good, IMO.

I don’t think they do now. but google them.

Thanks , had a look but concerned the screw fixing hole is not in correct position for keencut ?

They aren’t fixed with a screw in a hole! They’re held in with pressure, you couldn’t adjust depth of cut otherwise.

I can’t find the ones I used, maybe they’re discontinued - you could try these unbranded ones.

The trapezoid ones are less important, you can buy those from toolstation or amazon etc, for a fraction of the price.

Check different framing suppliers too if it’s just Lion you’ve looked at. Simon’s will be cheaper, mainline too I think.

The parent company at one time was American Safety Razor Co. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_ ... or_Company https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgewell_Personal_Care https://www.accuteccompany.com/s/

Through corporate musical chairs they are now called either 'Accu Tec' or 'Edgewell Personal Care Company'

One thing to remember....

Blades are cheaper than mountboard. It makes no sense to try to eek a few more cuts out of a blade and produce
an inferior mount which might have cost you £10+.
