Football shirt framing

Hi,

I am framing my first football shirt. I notice that sometimes shirts are framed with the label showing and others where it is covered by the board insert. I think showing looks better but in this case the label is an orangey colour which really clashes with the Burnley claret and blue colours. Sooooo.. i think I have to cover it. Am I best to use normal mount board (conservation quality) as I fell that if I use foam board it will show a very thick edge at the collar- or will this look OK?

Any advice on this would be great.

We always cut the former so that the shirt shows in the neckline and not the former inside it. Just think it looks better that way personally. Never had comments about labels but in fairness not framed a Burnley shirt.

If you can't avoid it and you want to use foam board then you could always cut away the foam board in that section and then add an infill piece of mountboard of a suitable colour, attached to the underside of the foam board so it sits flat against the back of the shirt to cover the label. This would be less bulky in the neckline than foam board (as you said) and should be less "shouty" than foam board as you could use a colour that will match the shirt colour more so it's less obvious.

Thanks for that . Yes I agree I'd prefer not show the insert but maybe a matching colour rather than the usual black. Good idea using just a small piece for the neck area.

Cut the label off(if the customer is happy with that)

I never have the former showing I always cut it out (well the trucut does). I agree I would disguise it with a piece of mountboard, I wouldn't cut it out even if the customer agreed to it as you have destroyed the integrity of it.
