Valiani Matt pro ultra. Different heads? Text mounts.

Post by Dan_LCT »

Hi guys
Im new to the Valiani and the world of CMC's.
I have a question about the different heads.

Im just experimenting cutting text out on mounts. I used the green head first but it didnt turn out exactly how I wanted. Generally poor quality and the blade eventually snapped. Check the short video I posted on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaBOZ0R5w5I

Would love to know your thoughts?

Trialed some text with the blue head and made the text a lot bigger and everything worked just fine.

Does anyone else have issues cutting small text?

Look forward to your thoughts.
cheers
Dan

Can't tel from that how big/small the text is, but it looks like you have trouble with your calibration, by the look of the over-cuts you have on most of your letters

Yes im using VStudio, great programme by the way. Find it really easy to use IMO!
We have the Matt pro ultra 150.

I figured it would be something to do with the calibration to be honest, just wasn't too sure where to start in terms of putting things right.

When it comes to text mounts, would you guys recommend using the green head? blue head?

Thankyou.
I use the Green head 95% of the time for cutting text.
I also tend to switch to the L100B blades for text less than <=30mm in height.

Are you getting overcuts when you use the Green head on Rectangles/Squares.

I ask that because you have 'huge' overcuts on that example. That should not happen if fully calibrated.

Hi Dan

I think the first thing you need to do is sort out the calibration, as this will effect everything mount you cut, also make sure that you have the correct depth of blade, too much and it will effect the calibration, it should just be cutting into the surface of the slipmat under the mount you are cutting. If the blade is too deep, then you are cutting further up the blade, which is wider, this can cause the type of cuts in your video, in effect the blade is too wide to cut the small curves. One thing I have done, (as we cut a lot of shapes, with a lot of curves) is to slow down the Radial (Curves) Cutting speed to 4000 and the same with the Diagonal Cutting speed to 4000, we found with high cutting speeds we had a lot of trouble with non straight cuts
You could also try cutting the mount face down, we do this on some very complicated designs

let us know how you get on

Thanks for all the replies guys!

like you guys said, the calibration needs sorting, particularly for the green head.

looking at my slip mat I had the blade set way too deep, and your point above makes perfect sense to me, I shall try slowing the speed down in the future.

Merlin, interesting point about using the B blades in the green head. It's something I wouldnt have ever thought of trying and again i'll certainly give that a go. In terms of standard square/rectangle mounts, ive got an overcut of about 1mm.

Using the Green head with G125 mountboard setting.

What depth setting are you being asked to set ?

If you need help, then I can always do a remote access to your CMC PC (assuming it is connected to the internet of course)
We can then look at your settings and calibrate..
