WANTED: GUNNAR CMC -Preferably with associated equipment

Post by easel »

Dear All on The Framers Forum

I have just joined this Forum as I am looking to purchase a used Gunnar* CMC within the next 2-3 months. I would consider other makes which perform equally as well but as I am more interested in Bespoke/Creative output I believe the Gunnar software is more capable than most.

I am not looking to purchase a complete framing outfit although may consider a complete set-up if it includes a suitable CMC.

As I planning to produce limited edition prints (mainly photographic) I would to sell them in 'unique design mounts' so if anyone has any advise they would like to offer, it would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance for any potential offers or 'leads' -as they say in some circles.

Kind regards,
Mike

Expensive way of testing the market? Why not ask an existing CMC owner to make them for you until you are sure they will sell? In my experience fancy/unique mounts sell CMC's not photographs. Just an opinion you understand.

Hi Alan

Thanks for your response to my advert which I appreciate; actually I have had demos from a Wizard user (who was happy to offer a competitive rate for volume etc) -and from Sarah Osborne at Gunnar which proved to be very enlightening and hence why I have a preference for a Gunnar CMC.

As to asking a CMC owner or owners, I did do that a fews weeks ago and got no response* at all from the half-dozen I chose .....obviously I didn't check with you but would do here. However before I do that I should point out that I am not looking for mounts that have all the 'whistles n bells' nor am I requiring high volumes of basic mounts.

Having had a look at your website and blog, could advise which CMC you use and whether you are used to creating cutting paths from Adobe Illustrator.

Best wishes, Mike

*My enquiry was based on me supplying the Mat design and the CMC owner out-putting the mats.

Suggest you post a picture of a typical design you are looking for.

There are a number of mount cutters on here

Hi John,

Thanks for your suggestion, I have had some mounts produced via Sarah Osborne which I could add here. However I would prefer someone contact me advising whether they could work from Illustrator-based files.

Cheers Mike

I cannot speak for other CMC software packages

I have a Valiani using V-Studio and I use a vector graphics package producing .PLT extensions to design and cut.

I would have thought, show a picture of the matt design you want cutting and ask if anyone is willing to cut them and at what price.

If you can save as an .svg scalable vector graphic or .plt plotter file then yes not a problem.

Hi,

OK thanks for letting me know; I need to recheck file types and extensions as I am not familiar with '.PLT'

Hi,

Thanks for your advice; I need to check file types as I don't remember this part of the process.

I have had a quick look at your website and samples of bespoke mounts which include text, I will spend a bit more time as soon as possible as I would be interested in a quote for cutting some sample mounts.

Kind regards, Mike
