I've recently set up an instagram page for my framing work.

Let's have your username so I can follow you and plagiarise your ideas.

I take more random pictures of the work on my bench and use it to tell a story, instead of 'this is another example of a picture frame. I then have an instagram gallery on my website which is obviously updated automatically. Also don't forget to link to you facebook page as well and twitter if you have it, and make sure they all link back to your website.

That's a good idea about telling stories. I normally do that on fb and twitter so I will try to do that on instagram as well. I also try and have different posts on each platform.
How do you link them without them all updating automatically, e.g. I hate when I look up someone on twitter, and all I see is automatic fb posts. I can follow them on facebook for that reason.

I just automatically post on multiple platforms. Not all your customers will follow you on twitter or facebook etc. To me its more about SEO.

We've been very lazy with our Instagram account, tended to focus on Twitter and Facebook, so it will be good to get it "out there" a bit more.

If you photograph your work and post yo instagram you can set it to post to fb and twitter. The other alternative is to use hootesuite which you can post to multiple channels. Finally don't ignore Google plus that will obviously help with seo.

Forgot to say that. I framed up an Aguero shirt and hash tagged it with aguero and Mancity and git loads of hits from it.

People will unfollow you on Facebook if you put everything up there; they don't want to be spammed by businesses in their social environment. I think once a week is plenty for Facebook.

Instagram and tweet as often as you like, but no closer than a couple of hours apart.

I have a separate business facebook page.

Yes... what I mean is that people will unfollow your Facebook business page. On Instagram people happily scroll through hundreds of pictures of rubbish; on Facebook they expect to see things of relevance and so will unfollow the irrelevant if it pops up too often.

I think facebook does it for you anyway.
I have around 600 fans and most posts are only seen by a handful of people.

Really keen to start developing website and Instagram presence. However, I am struggling to get decent photos without glare or reflection, any tips folks would be appreciated.

I lie mine on the floor and take photo from above without a flash. Seems to work fine for me.
I know some make the frames and then take out the glass for a photo before replacing it so that's an option.

You are best shooting in natural light and tilt the picture so you don't get any major reflections. You can photograph artwork behind glass properly but you will need a camera on a tripod with remote shutter control and either ambient daylight or soft boxes at 45 degree to the glass. The most important thing is a large black backdrop behind the camera and a black cloth covering the camera and tripod. You can use a sheet of black mountboard with a hole cut out for the lense but this will only photograph small frames, the larger the frame the more reflection from behind the camera the glass will pick up.
