Hi
We are a framer in Cape Town and using Morso cutters. We have little or no problem with getting blades sharpened until recently when my regular guy is not doing a good job anymore.
The problem is the blades don't cut at the correct angle. I can feel a slight push while a cut. Meaning that the front to back of the cut does not match. Not a problem on small moulds...big problem on wide ones. See pic
Has anybody got a specific spec to which these blades should be sharped too. Its very unlikely the local guys will have the Morso specific sharpening tool.

Re: Sharpening Morso blades...again!!
If that is the result using freshly sharpened blades then there is definitely something amiss.
The left-hand fence tweak might improve it, but this is more a method to compensate for blades which are getting dull.
If the blades aren't ground correctly then there may be a discrepancy in the vertical angle which no amount of fence-tweaking will fix.
The sharpening procedure for Morso blades is very precise. I think the specs are hollow ground at a 23º angle (don't quote me).
Your local guys will certainly be able to put an edge on the blades that you could shave with, but to operate in the machine they
need to be done correctly.
I realise that info is not a lot of help to you.

Come in Uncle Keith you are wanted.

The 'slight push' could be an issue. The hardened edge can come away slightly, Morso did have a problem with one batch, which will cause the problems you describe.

Re: Sharpening Morso blades...again!!
Hi all,
We have been made aware of this communication by Keith - he is everywhere....
Sharpening is the most common issue with our Morso machines. And there is a lot of sharpening Companies who THINK they know how to sharpen our blades.
To make it very clear - a set of Morso blades must be hollow ground in 28/29 degrees and very importantly, the cutting edge must be honed after grinding. The honing has to be set perfectly.
We have sold a lot of machines in South Africa, but right now, unfortunately we do not have a distributor here anymore, and this is very unfortunate as we would like a distributor who can support our very good customers there.
If you have any doubts if the sharpening is good or bad, we kindly suggest to check out with a brand new set of blades from the factory. If they cut okay, this will decide that the sharpening is in fact the issue. If this is the case we have a few pages in the instruction manual for the Morso F describing in details how to sharpen our blades correctly, and we will be happy to forward copies of these pages to anyone needing it. Just send us an e-mail at danlist@danlist.dk
Another small tip to check if the blades are hollow ground or not. Place a credit on the front of the cutting edge. If there is any air underneath the credit Card, then the blades have been hollow ground. (this does not necessarily guarantee the correct angle.) But if the credit Card can be placed flat on the cutting edge, this Means that the blades have be flat ground and therefore ground incorrectly.
We hope this information is usefull for you - but if you need any more detailed explanation about grinding, please feel free to contact us at any time. You can also see a video at www.danlistvideos.com
And may I take the opportunity to thank all of you for your great support to our products.
