Jimmy used to make these for one of the photography suppliers, that may even be one of his, if no one else says how it's done I will ask him tomorrow.

Re: Frame with glass as "mount" border
I've made a couple of these to mimic similar by Venture photography or some such. I used a couple of silver mouldings from Lion, wider for the outer and a narrower (about 20 mm) for the inner frame and to act as a spacer between the 2 layers of glass. The spacer is cut back to front so that the rebate faces out and joined as a frame then dropped into the rebate of the wide outer frame. The spacer frame will also cover the tabs.
Just be a little careful when firing the tabs - you can crack the grass Use strap hangers - no need for cord/wire.
Forgot to add, the smaller inner frame is glued to the backing glass or acrylic

Re: Frame with glass as "mount" border
Have made similar myself, although just the one piece of glass but I use acrylic making it less breakable. Inner frame has a laminated print so no need for glass and the whole inner frame stuck onto the acrylic.... less material.
The ones i've made were massive and tried the 2 sheet method as above but when using acrylic it was impossible to be flumb free due to the static.

I've seen something where the mount is part of the photo and this has been dry mounted onto foamboard. Whether this is the same as what you are trying to copy, I don't know.
