Card terminals - who is best/cheapest?

Post by topcat »

Has anyone got a recommendation for a reasonably priced card terminal provider. I've been with Worldpay and have been unimpressed with both the service and pricing. I'm a one man operation with a fairly low turnover, but obviously still want to provide a proper receipt and don't want a PayPal style terminal. Thanks.

There have been a few previous discussions about this.
I use izettle. There are no monthly costs although you pay a higher percentage per transaction.
It has the ability to email or text a receipt to the customer although you can buy a receipt printer for it if you wish.

We found our processor by using this site: http://www.cardswitcher.co.uk. You put in a few facts about your business and turnover and they 'compare the market' and a give you the breakdown. Our cheapest turned out to be Card Cutters and i was very impressed with their customer service considering they turned out to be cheapest. You get a designated application and transfer advisor and the whole process was hassle free. The rates they offered were much better than i'd received before with Barclaycard and Streamline, and confirmed by the cold callers we get the shop from time to time who have been unable to match the rates.

We found Paymentsense the cheapest, have been with them almost a year and the service has been fine and iZettle in our smaller Gallery. Have not worked out if I should change ever to the other as have not had time!

I use IZettle with the free card reader that plugs into iPhone via headphone socket. Works well even when mobile subject to good 3G signal etc.
They change just under 3% but no monthly fee
Like there website also, clean and simple

Problem I have with IZettle and PayPal Here, is you need a dedicated printer for the software, not any old printer, costing from £175.00
as lot of my customer want a paper receipt, rather than an emailed or texted one

Bit of a work around solution but could you email the receipt to yourself then print it out?

That is what i do if they want a hard copy, most of my customers are happy with text or email receipt especially if they get it just after you've sent it.

I offer email or text receipt or both (previously was just email) and no-one has ever asked for a printed one.

Quicksale Pro costs $29.99, it links directly to the iZettle device and enables you to print a receipt to any airPrinter, and if you want you can link it to a till. Use it for all of your invoices and it can give you all of the details for the month end accounts too.

We use iZettle with a Star TSP100 printer (about £120) and cash register. Claimed the VAT back and the equipment costs back on tax. Boom. Can honestly say its the best POS system we have used. On average we get charged about 1.6% due to the percentage dropping the more it's used. I really like that the 2.75% fee is deducted straight away on all card transactions so we don't get a bill at the end of the month, we get cashback instead. :tongueout:
Also you can get the money straight into your account the next day if you want and can keep completely up to date with all figures just by logging into the website or looking on the app. Helps you to see trends in peoples buying habits and which products sell and which don't.

We initially did use iZettle and I can't fault it at all. The only reason we stopped was because of the cost, things were getting busier in the shop and with a transaction charge on every use the cost soon added up at the end of the month. So, now we've got a wireless terminal from Bank of Ireland, one monthly fee & it's a fee that we were regularly exceeding by using iZettle. We get paid every 2nd day

I got it from https://www.printerland.co.uk/A4-Mono-L ... 22228.aspx I think.
There is a new reader available from a firm called Square which I would have gone for but they took to long to bring it out over here

Sorry Chris, sounded like you got a package of all three for £100...
Square does look like the best deal atm, more for the reader than sumup, but one of very few able to take over the phone/keyed in payments...
