I'm sure you've put the thought in to it, so feel free to ignore this...but is a CMC the best place to start?
There's a second hand ultimat gold for sale somewhere which would be an ideal choice to start with. Wouldn't lose much if you decided you did need a CMC later on and resold the ultimat...
I'd say the same about pneumatic vs foot operated underpinners too.
Just a thought...
Thanks,
andrew

Thanks for the thoughts, it is something I am considering. I'm thinking what my medium/long term aims are too and trying to buy well with that in mind. If the right deal isn't out there, then that may well be a good option. I appreciate your time.
We have just retired from framing for the second time around and although we were in business back in the 80's and 90's which was a whole different market, when we decided to start a new venture back in 2006, we decided this time we would do it right and buy the best equipment.
That for us was a foot operated Morso, a Keencut board cutter, a cassesse manual underpinner( CS89? ) plus a CMC.
During that time we changed the Morso to one with a metric scale,
we changed the underpinner for Minigraffe and then again for an Alfamacchine multi-channel
The CMC we changed for a bigger and faster version (Trucut Alpha)
the board cutter for a bigger one
and so it goes on.
The CMC is the biggest single investment you will make and without a fair bit of experience you are unlikely to know exactly what you want out of it, let alone which make to buy. We purchased Trucut and in the end it was a mistake, but as it is such a big investment you are kinda stuck with it really.
So my advice is start off with a manual one while your business develops, hone the skills on a manual cutter and see what you would really like to use. If I had my time again it would be a Gunnar by a long way.
I have a 40 inch Keencut Ultimat (purple writing) which I am just about to sell. I am based just south of Edinburgh, if you are interested please PM or call.
Cheers
