Am due to by some compressor oil for my Bambi ,struck me as a bit pricey , However there does appear to be other compressor oil at half the price . Am I being a skin flint. Or will I be doing damage to the compressor not using Bambi oil ?

Re: Compressor oil
I'm glad you asked that question. I too have explored the cheaper oils and can tell you of my experiences. First there was the car. After servicing, my local garage filled it up with it's general service oil and after only a month or so I found an appreciable amount of burn -off. So I then bought 5l of the recommended fully synthetic oil for my car and this has well outlasted any further top-ups.
Then my chain-saw. I used to use the local farmers supplies chain oil, then changed to a Stilh oil. The chain now runs far smoother.
Then I gave my Hydrovane compressor an oil change. Ignoring the expensive Hydrovane oil, I filed up with a substitute recommended oil from e-bay. That machine did not sound happy. I drained the oil off again and filled up with the proper oil. Much better - much quieter.
So the moral of the story you can guess. The right oil is expensive but it is the Right Oil.

Re: Compressor oil
I must say I only bought the cheaper oil because I was not sure if the second hand Bambi I bought had a oil leak or not.
And would have been upset about that but even more upset about seeing a pool of genuine expensive bambi oil on the floor.
