Re: Demonstration of Mount Decoration
John said "many thanks for sharing, Mal" and echo that.
The moment I read the post I was determined to attend as Lincoln is within striking distance for me although negotiating the slick cobbles and high stone steps in the Cathedral quarter of the city on a bitterly cold and dank day was quite testing, I turned it into a memorable day by taking in a couple of galleries and having a very good meal in a nearby Tapas bar: wink
The attendees at the demonstration were precisely shown how to execute each stage of the mount decoration. Mal's passion for the subject was obvious as is his dedication to the craft of picture framing. The techniques and materials used were not only demonstrated but explained in detail as he went along, culminating in the scattering of gold, a technique called "zarafshan". Mal's thorough preparation included bringing along examples of each stage of the process enabling close examination.
By viewing Mal's master classes online you can learn a great deal but seeing a demonstration "live" and meeting the gentleman in the flesh made it rather special.
Thank you, Mal for generously sharing your knowledge acquired over a lifetime

Re: Demonstration of Mount Decoration
For those who may be interested the first of the attached photos is of the final picture done during the demonstration I gave at the Lincoln Print Fair. The second is a matching Pahari painting done with the same design and from my own collection.
