Guess what this is

Spent Sunday at my brother's in Worcester - he lives right at the Northern perimiter of the city - 5 min walk to the Severn - we always take a walk when I visit. There are some fabulous houses around there - walking past one of them, he told me that my niece went to a birthday party there - they invited her whole YEAR - 96 kids!

Anyway - this is a sight I am not used to - anyone know what those large clumps are in the tree?

Mistletoe?

Edit: The other half says yes - mistletoe. You could have made a small fortune at the market by half-inching that lot.

Got it in one Steve - Mistletoe - all along the river in this area the trees are like this and there is an annual mistletoe market held nearby.

Mistletoe it is! First saw it growing when I was on a school trip in Normandy (goin' back to mah roots!).

I'm almost certain it's illegal to harvest it...

Well what you do is spray paint the windows of the nearby house at 2am, then no-one can see you pinch it....

My Brother, who is your absolute dream 'phone a friend' on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire and my sister - a (very) senior pharmacist were on about the legalities of harvesting/selling the stuff - didn't pay much attention - too busy looking for females hopefully loitering below!!!

This is the gaff that threw the 96 kids party - it's 'U' shaped. This was maximum digitally zoomed from the river - some view they have then!!

I can see myself having lots of fun with Irfanview - and once I've mastered what I need I'll send them a cheque too.

Much prefer being in the right place at the right time with the camera set right though ... blah blah - but don't have a problem with a bit of (tasteful) enhancement here and there!

John,

A couple of tips from a 'mug photographer' who learnt them from a pro:

1. It's all about light!
2. In dull light, use a tripod because the shutter stays open longer and us humans can't hold the camera still enough.
3. When using a lot of zoom use a tripod and self timer!
4. Fill the frame with the subject! You can crop to the subject, but it's better to get closer or use zoom!

The reef doesn't have an acid free barrier, just a glass barrier, which is impervious to acid, so I guess it is 'Archival". Nemo and his friends are very happy about that as they are very susceptible to acid!
