at. It’s mainly made from commercially available parts and a load of 3D printed parts. The heart of the contraption is a micro computer called an Ardunio. No idea where this is going but it keeps my brain ticking over.
Very nice, but I'm not sure how much use I would ever get from something like that, pen lines on mounts is not something that I get asked for these days. Wraped deep bevels and painted mount reveals are much more common these days. Plus I think that I can easily match your machine for speed with my linning pen.

Are they pen lines? I thought they were just outlines of the mount to show how the lettering would appear I can see a market for having text printed directly on to the mount instead of in a caption window.
I’m just sorting out mount templates and drew the lines to check dimensional accuracy. The machine will be able to draw just about anything on a mount. Lots of testing and modifications to go. It’s going to be a bit crude but functional.
Ha, thanks. The squeak is the servo that lifts the pen, I’m probably going to replace it with a stepper motor on the next iteration, which will be larger. This one is really just a proof of concept.
Have you ever heard of Harmonic drive zero backlash drive mechanisms? I worked for one company, which used them for accurately pionting pan and tilt mechanisms and weapons aiming sysets. We were able to work to an acuraccy of plus, or minus 1.5 minutes of arc. That is one thirtith part of one degree. The harmonic drive not only reduces the input retation to and output rotation of 100 times less, but there is a corresponding increase in the available torque available at the output compared to the available input torque.
Harmonic drine also macufacture combined harmonic drive, DC motors, tacho generators and Digital possition sensing at the output shaft. A special extra minute pan and tilt unit was produced to accurately point the camera at who ever was speaking at the time for televising the British Parlement house of commons. I was one of the engineers on the teams that designed this pan and tilt unit and therefore can tell you from first hand experience that this is the means of producing the level of accuracy and control, if you ever though of taking this idea futher.
Thanks Mark, that would be over engineering somewhat. I’m using some 3D printed parts and standard linear motion components and steppers. This stuff can get very expensive very quickly.
