I've just discovered this fantastic sheet and linear cut optimiser that I had to share. I have an order for a batch of 39 large frames for a client spread across 5 different sizes using artglass and 3.5mm mountboard, foamcore and backing. Clearly a big material outlay cost. It was a real headscratcher trying to figure out how to plan my ordering to ensure best yield from the various sheet sizes available. It took a long time to with pad and pencil to come up with an order list I thought I was happy with until it occurred to me there must be computer software to help with this and also expecting it to be chargeable. I came across free browser based optiCutter cutlist optimiser here https://www.opticutter.com/cut-list-optimizer to help plan the sheet materials and a linear calculator here https://www.opticutter.com/linear-cut-list-calculator.

It's dead simple to add the sizes and quantity required, plus the stock sheet sizes available to you and blade kerf and the cutlist is available in seconds. It reduced my expected material cost for the job by about £200! Any job with multiples, even if its just a couple of sheets or lengths is worth running through the calculator to ensure you are making best use of the materials available to you and leaving the longest offcuts possible, while spending less time on the calculator or guessing and hoping you have enough on the length! This is no doubt teaching some of you to suck eggs but if you've not given something like this a go in the past it's well worth a look.
