Corri-Cor bowing

Hi,

I tend to use Kraft lined boards for my frame backs, but have always preferred corrugated board. I know Corri-cor is supposed to have a slight bow which helps the artwork stay flat - while it does have this bow, I always seem to get sheets that have more of an 'S' or an 'M' shaped bow along the length. This means that the bow is fine at certain points of the board, but then bows the wrong way in other places! I use Corri-corr Mark 3 and just bought some mark 4 to see if that is any better, but that has the exact same 'M' bend. I just wondered if this is just how it's coming from my supplier (Centrado) or whether this is just how Corri-cor is? Is it worth me getting it from a different supplier or trying Artbak instead?

The first photo shows a sheet cut into 4 16x20" backs. You can see two bow the right way but two bow completely the wrong way

I buy a lot of mount board from Lion so could get it from them, but they only do backing boards at 1200x800 and I cut more 16x20"s than anything else so can't get 4 out of a sheet that small.

If you look for a backing board with the same face papers on front and back then it easy to just fit it with the curve facing inwards. Corrí Con and Artbak Con for example.

And it doesn't affect the price that much to move up to a conservation quality backing board.

That's a good point, but I really don't like white frame backs though!

I use Tawny board and recently I ordered some conservation Tawny board and every sheet bowed the wrong way, so I ordered some Corri-Cor conservation and though generally it bows the right way, towards the edge it curves the opposite way - not useful.

That's what I'm finding too. I wondered if it's how it's stored by Centrado or if it's just part of the board. It certainly does it with mark 1, 3 and 4 (not a problem with mark 1 as that can go in the frame either way, but 3 and 4 can only go in one way

If you are mounting with top and bottom hinged together, why not use standard Tawny board - up to now I have found that very flat?

I'm thinking I will go back to tawny board. I started putting a sheet behind my bagged mounted prints too, so liked the idea of the slightly lighter Corri-cor.

I just got a sample of Corri Cor Plus Proback from Lion. I can't really tell what the difference is with that to other Corri Cor but it feels much more solid and flatter. It looks like only Lion sell that though and again at the smaller board size

White frame backs look like and sometimes are archival/level 1 framing. Your framed work can be the same as everyone else's or literally "next level"!

I just don’t like the look! I like a nice brown frame back

I like white frame backs, with foam board and white gummed tape, or correx and lineco aluminium sealing tape.

I also like the US Dustcover method, this one uses thin black card, but any colour you like could be used.

(Your cord is too tight!)

Id say when hung, the cord is at least at 15 degrees so for my 1-2kg frames, that’s all good!

Two hooks is a good idea anyway, as a back up, to spread the load and to prevent constant readjustment on the wall.
