The weather in Belfast has been great all day. Lots of sunshine and blue skies.

I like storms (but no hurricanes). Nice with candle-lights, a good bottle-red and a "Fromage du Chêvre".....

Against my advice my daughter left London this morning to get to Dublin and she phoned from Dub this pm to say she is safe and that the weather in London had actually been worse than on the trip

Its worse here tonight, went out earlier and at the top of the hill it was like the rain was coming UP from the road! Never seen anything like it!

you're so thoughtful aine,
there is always soo much scaremongering re mallow!! was in cork today (dentist) and my car was all over the place on the main dual carriageway. v bad winds!! scary..

then i hear about this flood alert for mallow! i laugh because i've just driven down past the river from a night class (film studies) and its just overflowed the bank a small bit!!!

Our recycling bin blew over - lucky I wuz at work - could've scratched my luverly car.

We've had hailstones, thunder, horizontal rain and brilliant sunshine. All the bad stuff was in squalls - seen worse without the fuss. The Met office like to cover their proverbials after the Michael Fish hurricane.

Not being complacent though - there's more to come apparently and I'm in quite a sheltered part of the country. Went to choir practice tonight, got out of the car, quite a gale in Hove - tree in front of car going "Creeeeeeaaaak - Creeeeeeeeeeeeeak" Got back in and moved it sharpish!

The sum total of my problems at the mo' are bloody wild ducks in my fishpond. They don't eat fish, and there's no weed for them to dibble through, so they dive to the bottom and sift through the silt - now the pond filter is clogged and I have to clean it in this weather.

Anyway - take care everyone.

Safe so far down here. Major power cut last evening. Occasional flickering of power at the moment.

Heavy rain started about an hour ago. Winds now picking up. Looks like we are in for another rough night.

Forecast cannot be that bad though as the military jets are still flying from the base. They do not fly on their 1.5 hour sorties unless they know for sure that they can get back in...

I think our coast is very well protected by the "Deltawerken". My house is at 100 km from the coast and only 60 cm above sealevel...... Morst people live in houses under sealevel. Some 400 cm below.....

If only she had flown it would have been quicker but she went by ferry and is on the water again now heading back to London. Kids!!!! give us grey hairs they do.

Two ferry trips in such a short timespace? She must be a sucker for punishment!

If it's any comfort to you at all, Alan, the ferry companies are well used to rough seas between Ireland and England, and would be likely to cancel the sailing if things were going to be extremely bad. If she's sailing with Stena, they certainly wouldn't put on the mega fast ferries in exceptionally rough conditions; and to the best of my knowledge, the rest of their fleet have stabilisers to mitigate the effects of heavy swells. I hope your daughter has good sea legs!
