self adhesive tape fot non-conservation jobs

Post by fionnuala »

Anybody out there using self adhesive tapes for hinging run of the mill photo/pic etc to mountboard?

when i say 'run of the mill', i'm refering to items which people have chosen not to do to conservation standard. :)

Guessing most everyone is - Filmoplast P90 or UK 7-70 type of stuff.

I use PH7-70 for just about everything except embroidery.

I also use PH 7-70 for everything, tried P90 once, but found that a number of prints I had done sliped in the frame after only a few months, never used it again.

Hi, PH7-70 here too. Remember to burnish it down to get a good grip though.

mostly ph7 70 so. its really expensive at £14.00 tho isn't it. thats clsoe to what lion are charging for it.

is anyone sourcing it cheaper elsewhere???

p.s. for those who do use it for general work are you recouping the cost somehow? :)

Phill,
My guess is that you didn't burnish the P-90 down properly. If you use is just like Sellotape and press it on lightly with your fingers it will not stick. It needs burnishing down with a bone folder, back of a teaspoon or something else smooth and quite hard.

I'm not familiar with that product, but if you work out the cost of a couple of one inch or one and a half inch pieces, it will probably be very inexpensive.

P-90 costs about A$25 a roll and hinging one medium sized item costs about 3 cents. I think that's about one penny in your money. Hardly a fortune, but this cost and a profit on it should be included in your pricing system somewhere.
