Bristol this weekend - anyone????

Hi everyone
My first post on the forum however I have been reading and laughing at your posts for a few month now so didn't feel like a newbie, plus the old man (cathandon) dips in on the odd occassion so thought I was about time I sign up myself.

Just wondered if anyone on the Forum has any plans to go to the, dare I say it, FATG dinner in Bristol this weekend??

We are making the trip down from sunny Scotland tomorrow, I have a feeling that this is our summer holiday!!

Anyway, If anyone is I look forward meeting and drinking with you!

Welcome Jess, and congratulations on finally taking the plunge!!

Have a grand time at the weekend. Bristol is such a lovely city, especially on fine summer days. Have a bevvy or three for me, and if you're a real ale drinker, quadruple that!

I will probably attempt to quadruple it them. Used to drink lots a real ale before I moved to Scotland some 10 years ago. However I've not been able to find the consistency in quality with the exception of a handful pubs, so a trip south of the border will be welcomed in terms for a decent beer. In fact I can't remember the last time I had a real good drink, so a quadruple will probably all I manage

before I fall over.

Thankfully the local Tesco has started stocking London Pride recently. Wouldn't be my "weapon of choice" but I'm grateful nonetheless. Definitely better than no beer at all.

Bristol is Smiles territory. If you get a chance, try out their Indian Summer. V nice pint!

And if you find any hostelries serving Otter Bright, run - don't walk- to the pump! Also, if you see Hopback brews anywhere, their Summer Lightning is a pleasant tipple, though not as good (IMO) as the other two. Hic!

Oh the days sat in the London Porter House in Kings Lynn on a Sunday afternoon with a hot roast pork and apple sandwich, side order of roast tatties and a pint of Abbot Ale straight from the Cask.

Awards Dinner - Bristol

I'll be there with my wife, Margaret, and Tony, our manager at Lion South is coming along with his wife - not sure why I mentioned them as you're from the land of haa's and nice water. If you recognise me, do say hello.

Our guest for the evening will be a man from USA, David Lantrip. He's in charge of training at the biggest framing franchise company there, which operates Deck The Walls and Great Frame Up (I think I've got the names right). It could make for some interesting conversation, as each franchise is a small business, facing the challenges of the 'big box' operators there like Michaels and Hobby Lobby. He won't be drinking too much as he's doing his GCF on the Monday. I know he'd like to meet some framers.

I will certainly look out for you. Gordon and I are planning to take a trip to the Northern Ireland Branch meeting in Oct which I understand you are presenting at, so it would be great to put a face to a name before then.

Hmm. The Northern Ireland presentation is news to me - can someone there tell me more? Always happy to come along to meets and bore anyone there to death, but my diary gets filled quite a long way ahead.

Has the trend for microbreweries not reached you yet?

Ours is a town with 600 inhabitants and three pubs. One of the pubs has recently built a brewery so we have a couple of local brews made from spring water from the valley. Very nice it is, too.

I've always thought if the FATG spent as much time and effort on PR as they do on their awards evening then the genral public might have some idea who they are and what they stand for!

Its worth remebering the Affordable Art Fair's on at Temple Meads this weekend as well.

Right place - wrong year! Somehow that message says 2008, whereas it should read 2007. Yes, that was a very good event, but so far, I'm not aware of anything similar being organised for this Autumn.
