Using a new FTP client, recommended by Merlin (thanks John), today's planned maintenance took a quarter of the time expected. I think the forum might be running much quicker now, but that might be wishful thinking, or it might be that the Sunday Internet traffic is allowing quicker access.
I would appreciate feedback on whether you feel that the forum is running quicker, slower, or no change

Re: Forum Speed
John, difficult to know if it is just the sunday night syndrome but it seems to take an age when posting/previewing etc.

Re: Forum Speed
Pat's right, J. It's a little more sluggish now than earlier. Not as bad as before, though.

Re: Forum Speed
Incidently I now use the recent pages drop down list in IE to navigate back to the page I started in - generally the "view new posts" page. This avoids the repetitive "timeout" messages after posting.

Re: Forum Speed
Forum running very slowly again here, J. Not quite as bad as before, but still bad.

Re: Forum Speed
J, a thought about the poll. As the opening post stands, it can be a little ambiguous to people who have not logged in for a while and don't know about the maintenance work carried out last Sunday. It might be worth asking specifically if anyone has noticed any difference in forum performance since the changes you made on Sunday 25th May. Otherwise, people may just compare the current performance of the forum with the performance on the previous release of the phpbb software. Just a thought!
