When are you closing for Christmas?

We close at midday Christmas eve for 2 weeks. YIPEE!!!

The way things are going we will be here on Christmas day.

Had father-in-law here today helping me get caught up. First thing I said this morning was no more work taken in for Xmas- went to pick up daughter from school - walked back in to shop to be greeted by "I have said we will add this moulding to our order for Monday".



Wanted to say to customer how glad I was to be doing their job on Xmas Eve and how pleasing I thought their job will look in the cheapest moulding we stock and how nice it is going to look in the horrid old mount you won't let us change and thank you for bringing in the hardboard backing for us to re-use.

Also had problem with dry mounting job this morning. Two 20 x 20 photos came out looking like the surface of the moon. Must have been a duff sheet of display board but I scrubbed and cleaned the glass on the Hotpress and changed the release film and generally cleaned inside in case dust had got in. Now I have to stand the cost of reprints and guess when they are wanted for!! Also managed to stab myself with a stanley blade (straight cutter on Keencut) went in very deep and sprayed blood all over the bench but luckily not on the work.

So at 4.30pm started on the day's framing jobs - well yesterday's really as that didn't go much better.

I would get on with some fillet mounts but I have such a large bandage on my finger I can't manipulate the little bits of slip. So it's off to see if I can amputate something on the Morso.

The only extra day we are taking is next Saturday - 27th. Dunno if the staff were expecting some extra days off, but I guess not as they didn't book any!

24th at 2pm. If they haven't picked up by then - tough. Closed for the days in between Christmas and New Year. Then back to the grindstone - hoping that life isn't going to be as tough as the media predict.

I always say to myself that I will close Christmas Eve when everyone has picked up their stuff.

But, I’m always here until 5 because there is always some clown who has forgotten their “extra-special” gift.

After that I’m closed until the New Year. My wife is dragging me to her folks … a miserable, snow filled, 600 mile drive through some of the most treacherous hills in Western Pennsylvania.

Well it was supposed to be on monday so I could travel down to Walsall and spend xmas with the family. Unfortunately everyone is either coughing, sneezing, vomiting or worse so xmas has been postponed. Not to worry, I will not be stuck for a meal and a dram round here !. Ironically someone approached me yesterday do do some "emergency" framing so that will take care of tuesday and wednesday.

I am now thinking about travelling south in February for a belated xmas and a visit to the spring fair. This trip would not normally be possible due to the cost but as I am coming south anyway.... I will keep my eyes on the spring fair thread.

Closing at 4pm on Christmas eve and then reopening 9am on Monday 5th - suppliers are shut so there isn't much point in opening

Don't! I dread the trip. Two years ago I got three speeding tickets while driving through upper New York State. I paid the fines, but I received a notice that if I get caught again, they will throw me in jail. It’s lucky that New Hampshire doesn’t have reciprocity.

We have to drive through a State Forrest where there are always some critter trying to commit suicide by leaping out in front of the car. I’ve nearly hit deer, moose, bears, and beavers on several occasions. It is a nerve wracking trip.

And once we get there, it is a nowhere town full of old, boring people – absolutely nothing to do there. Last summer my wife took pictures of two bears wandering through her folk’s back yard, so, if I’m lucky, they will come back, maul me, and put me out of my misery.

Finished the last jobs. Few more to do but they will have to wait. Just had lady in wanting a mount cut.

A Christmassy Carol

Just had the first of the New Year jobs go out!! Finished all the christmas stuff and got it out of the way so I got on with a couple of frames with fillet mounts (fairly expensive job). Rang the customer on the off chance they would like it before christmas and hey presto in they come and hand over the folding stuff. Result.

Now how about all those other jobs in the drawers? No maybe not soon be time to don the red outfit and big F*** Off beard.

Finally finished the Christmas orders by 6pm Thursday.

To be honest, thy were a couple of Xmas prezzies for the wife that I'd forgotten about.

Er.. does that sound right? It was the prezzies I'd forgotten about, not the ... oh, never mind.
