MADchester City
I just cant imagine how a soccer club can pay US197million salary just to get a Brazillian soccer player play for them??!! Is the deal guarantee the Premier Title??
I think the money could be useful in many part of the world. Probably the money can save 100 thousand over of very very poor families in third world countries....or cover the GDP of certain small nations..........
It is a CRAZY...CRAZY world in English League.....MAD MAD MAD City!!!!

Re: MADchester City
Khoo,
I totally agree.
Most footballers are totally over paid, and too many are not good role models to the youths who admire them so much.
To give you an idea how much I know about football I once sat at MAN airport having a coffee. There were 3 men at the same table - I had no idea who they were. But a few days later in Bangkok I recognised one of the men on Thai TV saying in a Scottish accent "Aye the lads played well today".
Turned out I had been sitting next to Sir Alex Ferguson and had no idea who he was.
I would much rather play sport than sit and watch it.

Re: MADchester City
I would have done it for $196,000,000. (cash).
What gets me is, they pay enormous sums for these 'star' players yet still employ a trainer. You would think that someone who cost that amount of money would know how to play.
People take the youknow out of D.Beckham, making him out to be a 24-carat thicko. Yet he gets paid £***zillion a minute for occaisionally running about in a field. Makes you wonder who the real duckeggs are.

The nimrods are from Los Angeles who "stole" Beckham from you guys. I just read that he is "on loan" to an Italian team for a few months, supposedly, to get him "back in shape".prospero wrote:Makes you wonder who the real duckeggs are.
With the money that he's getting paid, I would have thought he could afford a treadmill or something.

Ok, I'd also accept US$ 196,000,000 but I'm Brazilian, so, I'd have an advantage...
At least until they saw me playing, or trying to play!
Seriously now, at least Kaka donates a huge part of his earnings. It still doesn't make it any less ludicrous but it's better than if it were a player who would just spend on betting, casinos, etc

Re: MADchester City
football, money, rich Arabian......and now they are targeting Liverpool!
Re: MADchester City
With the whole world of sport being ruined by such rediculous amounts being paid for "stars", just imagine what might be achieved if Manchester City invested an equivalent sum in a number of the struggling Clubs in the lower divisions of the English soccer world - wouldn't that give incentive to some of the youth of England - maybe, just maybe Manchester City would get a real dividend from their investment in the form of homegrown youth

How the other half lives...
Totally off-topic (so what's new ... ), I see from some of the Forum backposts, Alan, that you were in Dorset last year. I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit to Durdle Door: it's one of my favourite places on the planet.
