Re: Heffelump for Moggers
Better again, a Baby Heffelump!
It's just a tad* embarrassing to 'fess up to this, but one of my nicknames at school was "Baby Elephant", not so much because of my size as my modus operandi...
I think elephants are such magnificent, noble creatures. One of my warmest and richest memories from childhood was a trip to the zoo where I got to feed a bun to an elephant: I was just blown away by the feeling of sheer, unadulterated joy! I couldn't draw a picture of it, but I can still see "impressionistic snapshots" of the the elephant enclosure in my mind's eye, and I can remember the feeling of the soft, warm and moist elephant's trunk on my hand, and the gentle way in which it took the profferred food. Wonderful!
Isn't it sad the way that the process of socialisation beats the living daylights out of our innate ability to experience parts of our lives as absolutely magical...
I hope the part of me that is still childlike never completely shrivels up and dies: and I'm grateful for my deep love for animals (some of which happen to be human (mostly from subspecies Homo Framerus!
), as it keeps that part of me alive, even at the most trying of times.
Thankyou, Alan!

I love these critters, too. This small herd consists of four generations where Great-Gramma is clearly the head honcho. When this family is threatened, the older guys surround the youngster like they were circling a wagon train. Nanna’s ears are forward in a threatening gesture (like she isn’t intimidating enough). The mid-sized one is mimicking the gesture, but she is still hiding a little behind just to be on the safe side.
It’s refreshing to know that these parents consider the welfare of their charges more important than their own.

Nice exposure Bill!
Either you or the camera did a nice job of sorting the lighting out with this difficult scene with such bright conditions.

That grouping to the right on the floor, would sort out our English rose beds.

You'll like my next painting then, when I finish it! Nearly 3/4 done with the background, can you guess what will be in the foreground?Moglet wrote:I think elephants are such magnificent, noble creatures. Just used the shadows & higlights adjustment on photoshop - 20 seconds work, thats all! Makes a great improvement to dark areas.

Aw, nuts!
It seems I didn’t protect the image with my usual anti-piracy device.
