Framing objects in a straight line

Post by violetrblue »

Hi,
I have 6 separate ceramic letters to frame in a shadow box frame.
Does anyone have advice on how to frame them in a perfectly straight line?
I make up my shadow box with matboard.
Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks,

When we need to align anything onto a mat (mount) board, we tend to use a strip of 3M #811 Magic Removable Tape.

Once we place a pencil dot on the edge of the mat/mount where it cannot be seen, we run this tape between the marks. The Magic Tape has a very low tack and does not leave any residue when you remove it. The tape leaves the mat unmarked in any way. Very useful stuff.

Welcome to the forum violetrblue!

I make marks on the left hand side and then put a 'T' square on those marks and sit the objects on the 'T' square. If you're using adhesive you can just remove the 'T' square - if you are fastening them, you can mark the points where you will put your thread, straps, whatever and this can be done from the back.

You could try a laser level clamped above the workpiece and shining down.

My technique is similar to Bill's..... however I use a thin bit of thread held at the edges with the tape.

If you have a CMC, cut a matt-board with six openings appropriate for your ceramic letters and this will provide both correct spacing and the straight line you are seeking
