we have a good customer who lives abroad.
He has had a lot of framing done and the framed works are to be collected from us and delivered to Switzerland. He wants us to invoice his main company in The Bahamas I don’t have a problem with any of this, but he does not want to pay the VAT
Has anybody got any experience with regard to paperwork and what is required to keep the VAT office happy?
We are invoicing for frames only not artworks
Thanks

Re: exporting and VAT
Quickest way to find out is to give the local VAT office a ring. They are usually quite helpful.

The sale is zero rated - just have your normal selling price as if it were UK but do not itemise the VAT.
All that's required to keep the VATman happy is to list the sale as overseas - EEC or non EEC.

Re: exporting and VAT
Forgive me, John, but unless I'm much mistaken, for EC exports that's not strictly true. If goods are exported to another EC member state, the importer of the goods needs to provide the exporter with a valid VAT number in order for the exported goods to qualify as being exempt from VAT.
Haven't an iota of what's required for non-EC exports.

Prospero is right - a call to the VAT Office is best - they can be very helpful, especially with exports.
Switzerland is not a member of the European Union.
