Memory Foam Mattress

Anyone got one of these? - We've been after a good deal on one for ages - the best, I think, is 'Tempura' but have never found a double under £1700.

Please don't post a link to one for (much) less!

I'd actually pay that no problem seeing as I'd be spending one third of my life on it, but it's 'er indoors!

Up until now we've had a very firm mattress, but topped with a 'Z-bed' feather mattress, I love it; it's like sleeping on a cloud, as long as you turn it over and around and beat the carp out of it, every day!

We tested the water a long time ago with memory foam pillows - they cost about sixty quid each too! Well impressed.

Well, yesterday we went for it. We weren't actually looking for one, we were actually having a Matalan top-up (I'm not ashamed to say that most of my daily wear comes from there) There's a 'Dreams' a few doors up and they had a sale - we got a £1900 mattress for £749. The store was empty when we went in - we tested (by actually lying down together) a LOT of mattresses, some all memory foam; some memory foam over varying amounts of pocket springs. No-one came in the whole time we were there, which was a long time.

Didn't like the sprung ones, you plonk down and it moves about for a bit, and so does it every time you change position. On the solid foam ones it's 'THUNK' and that's it until you roll over, and then it just moulds itself to you again.

The sales geezer was quite chuffed when we said 'want that one' - he tried to sell us some sort of insurance, which included a free quilted cover, but we don't do those add-on things. He ended up throwing it in free anyway!

And why should you be ashamed John? You're keeping a dozen 7 year-old asians in employment, who would otherwise go hungry - a laudible achievement!


I hope you enjoy the mattress - i've been after one for the narrowboat for ages, but even a small one costs an arm and a leg, especially when you have to have it made to measure

Anyone thinking about getting one of these mattresses but is put off by the price I would say "go for it" if you possibly can!

It was a huge amount for me to consider spending (after all I am a skint picture framer) but with long standing back problems
(excuse the pun) I felt I had to at least give it a try along with the memory foam pillow...........bliss!

Would never go back to a sprung mattress.

Hope you like yours as much as I do John, and remember, they take about a month to reach their optimum comfort level.

This is the one we bought, not delivered yet (2-4 weeks)

Previous to this we were after some new bedding sets and got some flyers in the paper offering '500 count' cotton. We've never looked at the 'count' of bed linen, even though we sell needlework fabric by the 'count' (holes per inch - times the number by itself for holes per sq inch)

So we went and had a look around the shops to see what 'counts' there were available - best we could find was that 500 count in Beales, at a hec of a price. So, off to TK Max we went and ended up with a ONE THOUSAND count set, well, two. Oh boy! It's so smooth you sort of can't even feel it - combine that with this mattress and maybe I'll be late for work for the first time ever!

Thanks for starting this topic as had made me get into gear and get on with replacing the mattress that came with our bed a few years back and having had a weekend away in the Peak District on a really comfy bed it makes ours seem all the worse.

I will be of to talk to Dreams ASAP.

Don't want to spoil the party but we had one ( a Sealy one) - thickish memory foam topper and both of us hated it.

Problem was it was too warm. Tried less covers etc but neither of us could sleep.

We tried this out for ages in the shop and it felt fine.

Despite involving the shop and eventually a visit from the Sealy rep. we never got anywhere.

Gave up after 6 months - it to the local furniture charity - at least it was put to good use.

We have now been along to out local Dreams shop and placed an order but not for a full memory foam mattress. Instead we have gone for a pocket sprung mattress (1260 springs) with a top layer of memory foam.

The salesman gave us a warning about being hot on a full memory foam mattress and as me and the misssus are both hot in bed if you will excuse the expression we heeded his advice.

10 year gaurantee thrown in a plus a free mattress topper thrown in as well as their knock down (?) price so could not really argue when we got stiffed for £32 delivery.

For this amount of money I could buy a whole bed, and a damn good one, complete with mattress - so it had better be good, with no sweating problems. (No problems with the pillows)

It must be good, the salesman said "I sleep on this mattress" - reckon I'm going to bang on the shop door at 1 am to see if I can wake him!

It's coming on Friday.

Two nights on it and loving it!

It's not a 'squidgy' thing - quite firm; would be a bit too firm if it was a normal mattress, but as it's moulded to your every contour, it doesn't matter.

If someone else sleeps on your side of the bed does the memory in the foam keep them awake???

I don't know if it's true but apparently a couple got a bit too 'enthusiastic' on one of these things and a woman had to be prised out by the fire brigade.

But I think that was a 750gb mattress; ours is only a 300gb which leaves the head and most of the arms and legs sticking out.

I have a Tempur mattress which cost just over £2000, I was very lucky that it was purchased for me by service charity’s before my medical discharge from the Army at the beginning of his year.

When I and my wife tested it in the shop we loved it. When we had our first night sleep on it we both hated it, by the end of week one my wife was wanting to buy a single bed for her to sleep on and me to keep the double.

It took me about three weeks to fall in love with my mattress, my wife just over a month. I would never be without one ever again. Was at the mother in laws for an overnight stay a few weeks ago and slept on a normal bed and can honestly say I never slept all night, well that’s what I tell the wife so I don’t need to stay again.
