John,
I hope you have a pleasant birthday and that the next one doesn't come around quite as quickly!

Cheers Geezers!
It's been a nice week - one of my resolutions was to stop the tail from wagging the dog and another was to come out of 'Grandad denial' - I have 2 Grandsons my eldest Grandson (Charlie - 10) lives a 40 min drive from me in Eastbourne but the youngest (Kirk - 5) lives 2 hours away - M25 permitting) in Milk'n Beans.
Charlie was the result of a fling and it took a DNA test to prove he was my eldest son's child - but once it was proven my son happily paid maintenance and saw/sees him very regularly, sometimes he'd drop in here when collecting him from/dropping him off at Eastbourne and that was fine - the kid was 'outside of the family' and I ain't no stinkin' Grandad anyway.
As for Kirk - (my youngest son's boy) well - lucky to see him twice a year - due to 'the bloody shop' and my son and his wife, like most young couples, having to work all hours to make ends meet.
Sunday my eldest son - who also lives in Milk'n Beans came down for Charlie's birthday, but he didn't have to go to Eastbourne - because I picked Charlie up at early 0'clock and brought him here. His mum has a lovely place backing on to a Marina! This was all inspired by facebook - Charlie befriended me just before Christmas - he's a smashing young lad and I felt a right plonker.
From now on I'll either be collecting Charlie and taking him to Milton Keynes to see his Dad, or collecting him from there after to return him home - not every time, but plenty, then I'll also get to see Kirk, plus my sons and my daughter, (they all live in Milton Keynes!) mmmmmmuch more often and I'm not going to let 'the bloody shop' get in the way. I'll spend time with Charlie between times too - whether it's a quick lunch in Eastbourne or a stay-over with me - he LOVES making frames and I don't have to pay him
Aaaaanyway, before his Dad arrived on Sunday - Charlie had a play on the CMC - cut himself a double 'CHARLIE' photo font mount (showed me some clever stuff on the PC as well)!! and we framed it. Then his dad arrived, with my daughter and after a Hugh-Mongoose present-opening session, we all went out for a 3-generation double birthday lunch/day out in Arundel - which was absolutely rammed - but still nice - one of my favourite places and only 3 miles away.
Gizzits included a 'Grow your own pole dancer'! Didn't have to cook tonight - Pat did us fillet steak and on Thursday our weekly eat-out night will be at a v nice fish restaurant in Littlehampton.
