Hi, I have a series of valuable original illustrations I need to frame.
The illustrations all "bleed" to the edge of the artboard. I don't want to overmat b/c that would lose some of the image, so my preference is to float-mount each piece over a separate black backing board.
The artwork is not on paper, each is on a thicker & heavier 11x17-inch Bainbridge S-172 art-board.
I'd be grateful if somebody experienced with float-mounts can provide me advice how to best mount those illustrations without damaging the value of the artwork (ie. drymounting and spray-adhesive is out of the question).
I'm wondering if cloth hinge tape or Filmoplast will support the heavier weight of that board.
I am also concerned whether the art-board may curl.
Any-and-all advice appreciated.
Many thanks.

Re: Advice on how to float-mount
Hi Billy I recently gave a seminar at the Spring Fair called ''Whats Inside'' this included some work I did on float mounting and the hinges used; the power-point presentation is on my web site www.harlequin-frames.co.uk under the tab, articles. I am not sure of the weight of the board but you might consider using linen tape and extend the amount of tape that sticks to the back of the board. Hope this helps.
