WANTED: Framers Bench + Glass storage system? Help...

Post by jgallery »

Does anyone have a framers bench available for sale? I'm based in London.
Also any advise for how to store glass? is there a bench that would have dividers strong enough for storing 2mm sheets of float glass? Thank you.

Can't help you with the bench I'm afraid because we just built most of what we needed from mdf sheets, which includes the bench.

The glass storage we have is also an mdf box with dividers (I think it's 18mm thick) and the glass stands on it's short side. It is fixed to the floor and wall for support and we could get 100 sheets into each division at a squeeze, you decide what you need. Ours stores picture glass, nr glass, conservation glass and perspex all in their own divisions.

I also built my glass storage, I incorporated it into one of my hand built benches back in 1988 when I first started framing. The bench is constructed from cabinet grade Baltic birch with luan dividers. The luan is much lighter than MDF or other boards and it is more than adequate for storage of glass. I used these benches until I retired and sold them in 2008. I built a total of 4 shop benches, a 12' customer counter, and 4 carousel type moulding sample racks and they all were in service for most of my framing career. All of the benches had storage in them to utilize all the available space taken up by the footprint of that bench.

I stored every size of glass in this bench and still had plenty of room for a few cases of foamboard or other mount board.
If I don't have to feed it or take it for a walk, I can frame it!
