When top level guys look down, they see only shit;
When bottom level guys look up, they see only assholes...

Re working for yourself, just delete 'Executives' - 'Departments' and 'The Rest' and have The Manager stand on his head an hour or so after a vindaloo washed down with a tablespoon of Andrews Liver Salts.

thought about that - we have two depts - sales and marketing (tony) and production (me) works a treat - I don't deal with customers (cause i'm a grumpy old man and he's a sort of smoothie) and i don't let him in the workshop for health and safety reasons (his own safety) - Between us over the 20 years we have recognised that we both contribute in our own way; HE is my customer and i provide EXACTLY what he specifies!

A good maxim here - ITS NOT DOING THINGS RIGHT - ITS FINDING THE RIGHT THING TO DO. e.g could make an absolutely perfect medal frame - but the customer wanted the background red not blue and wanted the medals in order of importance to him (not necessarily in order of precedence).

Don't waste energy and effort in your business doing things right - ensure you really are doing the right things - bit deep but ponder on it! that perfect display in the window - is it the right display to drag em in?

I'm sure - well - I hope, we are doing the right things to the best of our ability - but I'm the worst boss I've ever had - no contest.

In my previous profession, we were told we didn't have problems, we had opportunities.
