Hi
Can anyone recommend someone to clean and reline an old oil painting?
The size is approx 20x16
In our workshop we often do basic cleaning but have never attempted re-lining and am guessing its probably best left to someone with decent experience!
Any advice gratefully received .
Thanks
Frameet

Hi Frameet,
Welcome to the forum
If nobody comes up with a personal recommendation, the place to search for a conservator/restorer is the ICON website:

You'll find a list of Guild members who do Art Restoration here: http://www.fineart.co.uk/Directory/Default.aspx scroll the category search box to Restorer-Art

Re: Oil Painting Cleaning
Just wondering if the guild site lists qualified conservator/ restorers or Guild members that are framers and "do conservation”?
There is a huge difference

Go to the Icon site as suggested, it's well worth it's salt!

Re: Oil Painting Cleaning
Hi Ian
Both, in answer to your question. Some of our members have decades (one has a century!) of experience in restoration of art and frames, but may not be qualified, others are.
I can add a search category for qualifed restorers which would be self-selected by members when they update their Directory entries, but as we are not the awarding body we don't have a mechanism in place for verifying this information.
The Guild is a member of ICON - I was fortunate to attend their last seminar event of Picture Framing which was a really fascinating insight into the world of museum frame conservation. Their website is a great resource for all conservation needs.
