Stainless Steel Wire for Hanging

I normally use cord but have been asked by a customer to put wire on the back for hanging.

I don't want to use the brass stuff due to potential failure of the steel core so I need to equip myself with some stainless wire. I am looking at the plastic covered stuff but looking in the Lion catalogue there seem to be a lot to choose from.

Any recommendations? and also am I better using the ferrules that crimp on or twisting? The Fletcher Wire Winders look useful.

This is what I use There's a step-by-step of how to tie it in that link and the same on each reel.

The Lion own brand is just as good and slightly cheaper and the main two sizes I use are #5 & #3. Lion refs 5733 & 5731 respectively.

That method of tying looks better than ferrules IMHO and you don't need any tools bar a pair of snips.

I use that stuff, I put about an inch of electrical heatshrink over the twists, looks really good.

I'm another super softstrand user, tied with a knot and twisted like they show on the reel.
I also use the No.4 brass (I think you can only get it from Scragg's), but only because one customer insists on brass wire on all their frames.

Softstrand or Lions equivalent are both good. I doubt ferrules would work well with plastic covered wire - tying and twisting is good and looks neat. The Fletcher winders work well with uncoated wire - but not so well with the coated stuff.

i use the brass stuff and use the fletcher winders with it, it means everyone who makes a frame in my shop can produce the same quality of knot every single time

and those winders are cheap as chips from lion

I didn't know Lion sold chips. Are they any good.?

they are good, and if you order at the right time of year they will give you smarties too,

I've had the smarties. Never had a Lion bar though......

But I don't like Lion bars. All they are is a load of rice crispies stuck together with a bit of choc on the outside. Gimme a Mars Bar any day. Is there a firm called Mars Picture Framing? If not, will somebody please start one up and send me a Mars Bar. And a proper one. Not one of those 'fun size' ones. I can remember when Mars bars were so big you couldn't eat a whole one all at once without being sick.

Thanks for the input, guys. Interesting to note the winders don't work with coated wire and I like the idea of the shrink tubing to make it look tidy.

Will get my order in to Lion.

Also thanks for the information on your preferred confectionary. I like a chunky Kit-Kat or a Double Decker myself.
