Stickers/transfers

I have a client interested in up to 200 frames, great!!! Snag is they would like their logo printed onto the mount.

I unfortunately don't have the facilities to do this, and printing here is very expensive.

I am thinking stickers or even better transfers.

Would this work?

Can anybody recommend where I might be able to source these?

Why not IN the mount in a title aperture? That would look far better and be far less problematic, the client could provide a sheet of logos for you to cut up or, now it's on paper, you could probably print them yourself.

People do tend to have these bright ideas with no real conception of the work involved.

Robo's idea is probably the best option. But make sure you cost it realistically. Doing a two-window mount takes longer than doing two one-window ones.


(Unless you are one of those CMC totin' fellows. )

It's at times like these that I wish I had a cmc! Or cheap postage!

I like the idea of a second aperture however with just me and Fletcher we could be some time !!!

The only thing with transfers is that they tend to stick to the glass if in direct contact.

There is always a snag!

Some sort of spacing will be required then. Any suggestions for a easy solution?!

how about somekind of thin stainless or chrome logo that sticks onto the mount ? not cheap though!

If you know someone fairly local with a CMC, or even if you don't and have to pay shipping charges, even cutting the main apertures (800 cuts plus cutting the boards to size) could be worth subbing the job out, and if printing/stickers/transfers is out and the title aperture is the way to go then it could be even more worth subbing it out.

But I think I'd rather do 200 double aperture mounts manually then mess about with spacers just for the sake of a transfer or a label.

I would dismiss the spacer idea. A mount on it's own isn't very rigid and relies on being pressed to the glass to stop it curling.

Not necessarily. Depends on the complexity of the Logo.

I have had a quote for the logo to be printed.

Euro,6.79 each under 50 and 5.75 over 50 !!!

After putting a few feelers out, I have a reasonable quote for vinyl stickers. I am also looking into foil blocking. It's just trying to find someone here to give me a quote.

It certainly would be easier in the UK!

Has the Uni got any letterheads or other stationery that you could cannibalise for the logo?

I had a play around with this stuff a few years ago. We used an iron to rather than a laminator, and the results were surprisingly good.

Might be worth looking into.

That looks really interesting John. I think I might have a play with that. It won't come in time for this quote unfortunately. Something for future framing though.

I have finally found some companies that can do foil blocking, yippee!
I have one quote that seems reasonable and more to come.

Here I must say a THANKYOU to Kristine from lion who suggested this foil blocking in the first place. Just what I was looking for.

I have stacks of info about all sorts os solutions, all will come in handy at some point I am sure. It's just remembering where on my pc it's all stored!!!

hi, try looking at the issue from a different angle - what we here have done in a similar issue was to have the logos cut in 'reverse' (ie like the police badge on the front of a motorway car) and then applied to the inside of the glass. This works far better as the texture of the mount doesn't affect the sticker, and the adhesive vinyl sticks to the glass far better than any type of mount. Just remember to familiarise yourself on applying vinyl using the 'float on with water and squeggee(???) out' method. Gives a very crisp modern look perfectly. Please be aware, though, that as far as i am aware, the neatest small text letter that can be cut on a vinyl plotter is roughy 2cm high. email if you want any more info.
